Polka Dots

Choreographed by
Elvine Bologa in collaboration with dancers

Performed by
Dana Ball, Dawn Berry, Cristian Bologa, and Elvine Bologa

Music by
Ernst Mosch

With this piece, I'm reaching across time and space to connect two meaningful chapters of my life: the world of my childhood and adolescence in a German-speaking community in Romania, and the new world I’ve come to call home since moving to Albuquerque. It is an attempt to weave memory, language, and identity into motion—honoring where I come from while fully embracing where I am now. Choreographed to traditional polka music and loosely inspired by the German folk dances of western Romania, the piece bridges past and present—merging the rhythms of my heritage with the vocabulary of contemporary dance.

Music by
Robert Fripp and Peter Gabriel

Significant societal changes have impacted how we interpret “exposure,” how we choose to expose ourselves, are vulnerable to exposure, or can revel in it.  But do we do so willingly and thoughtfully?

En las Manos de mis Antepasados

Martin Quintana

Music
“Genesis” by Tierra, "Hymn of Farewell" by Spanish folk song, “They, Them” by Jan Jelinek, “Grasshopper Waltz” by Daniel Lopez, Music edited by Martin Quintana

Time ticks below my feet. Beat after beat after beat. In a sacred rhythm. Something pulls me to the ground and for a moment I feel rooted. No longer in the in-between or the liminal. The here-or-there. For a moment I am both here and there. Exploring dance as a way to access memory and plant new seeds of belonging as a Nuevomexicano.

INTERLUDE

The Collective vs. The Centrifuge

Choreographed by
Erica Wilson

Performed by
Bethany Tabor, Maureen Gorman and Erica Wilson

Music
“Half-Gramme Holiday” by Brambles, “Billie Holliday vs Deadbeat,” Copenhagen Jazz Festival Live, by Lulu Rouge and “CHALLENGER” by Mike Dean

The Collective vs. The Centrifuge is a glimpse into a larger work-in-progress that will premiere in full at the Reno Dance Festival in September. This piece is a contemplation of groupthink and the invisible threads of collective thought that shape our behavior, beliefs, and belonging.

What draws us together—and what pulls us apart? This work explores the tension between the safety of the group and the centrifugal forces that spin us outward as individuals: the urge to dissent, to dream separately, to pursue unique paths with conviction and passion.

This tug of war presents duality within and between us all.
