“Up and down – Momentum & Power for Expression”

Explore the boundaries of our bodies through the lens of modern dance and self-expression. Move through and out of the floor, investigating momentum vs. suspension combined with the use of power vs. ease—the interplay between effort and release. Potential energy can be harnessed and evolved like a moving current through the body’s natural way of moving. With it, we can access our autonomy through movement.

Drawing from a range of modern dance modalities, guided improvisation, and floorwork, dancers will explore dynamic phrasing, strength from the ground, and the potential of risk and resilience through vestibular on- and off-balance turns moving in and out of the floor. The class will conclude with a choreographed phrase, inviting dancers to evolve the movement into their own most authentic state of expression.

About Erica

Erica Wilson is a contemporary dance artist, choreographer, and educator based in Albuquerque. With over 15 years of experience teaching dance, Pilates and yoga, she specializes in contemporary and contact improvisation, blending kinesthetic awareness with creative exploration. Her work draws from multiple modern dance traditions while also veering away from traditional technique; she likes to explore how authenticity and vestibular momentum shape the body’s capacity for self-expression. Rooted in a deep technical foundation, Erica’s movement embodies the search for power, autonomy, and risk-taking. Dance has been the catalyst helping her understand and absorb reality, undiluted and without a buffer. As the founder of Mövgram Dance and the Reno Dance Festival—which has showcased over 50 artists and original works in both film and live performance—she continues to create, teach, and foster community through movement and collaboration.
